App Expo

Idea

To bring together a collection of quality applications to demonstrate to people.

Applications do not have to be created by the presenter himself; they may be commercial, open source or otherwise as long as credit is given appropriately. Applications (or even entire packages) may also be in the form of a web application as opposed to a traditional desktop/server application.

Presenters may be students or faculty of UMKC, however, if someone outside of UMKC is interested in participating, this will be dealt with on a case by case basis.

There is currently no schedule or venue in mind.

Stalls / Booths

Confirmed

  • Django -- web application framework written in Python

Probable

  • Firefox (developer) -- Firefox browser customized for website development
  • Ruby on Rails -- web application framework written in Ruby
  • Visual Studio 2008 (with extensions) -- .NET programming environment

Possible

  • Eclipse -- modular cross-platform development environment
  • OpenOffice.org -- cross-platform productivity software

Rules / Policies

  • at least one exclusive presenter per stall
  • software must be legal in the USA
  • software usage must be legal on the machine it is to be run

Uncertainties

  • should a stall show more than one software package (application) ?
